I think we all know Kevin (the mermaid) is the real winner here, but as runners-up to the night, here are the top three smoothest bands from Smooth Sailing 2, as voted by you on Friday:

1st Place: Aunts & Uncles
2nd Place: The Greff Band
3rd Place: Dan Moxon

The Prizes:

The first place prize is a boat rental from the awesome marina out at Horeshoe Bay, Sewell’s Marina. Second place prize is a night at the hotel above the Biltmore Cabaret, and the third place prize is a collection of the smoothest Vinyl, thanks to Vintage Media (Main st. and 12th Ave). Congratulations guys, we’ll get in touch to deliver the goods.

2nd Annual SMOOTH SAILING!! Get out your harpoons!

Hard to believe an entire year has gone by since our last smooth sailing, yacht rocking event. I hope you all kept the fire, and are ready to sail away once again. Friday September 3rd, make sure you show up at the Biltmore Cabaret for our 2nd annual Smooth Sailing event! 12 bands, $12 bucks, great theatrics and delicious margaritas!

For any of you that missed it last year, Smooth Sailing is 12 local Vancouver bands of all genres doing their renditions of “really smooth music” and “yacht rock” (all the tacky brilliant 70′s & 80′s soft rock ballads you can think of – Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Toto, Hall & Oates, Foreigner, etc..) Here’s a good place to start:

Long Overdue: Photos from Red Cedar’s CD Release Party!

So back in April, Red Cedar released their debut self-titled album at the Railway Club along with Valerie Graham and The Greff Band. The night was a huge success, and we managed to snap a few pics of the evening:

Thanks to everyone that came out to the Biltmore for Smooth Sailing on Friday night, it was a huge success and I hope everyone had as much fun as we did! All 12 bands were phenomenal and they made the night run like clockwork. The Margaritas and Piña Coladas were drained, the Toast Collective hosted a great after party, and nobody drowned as far as I’m aware. At the end of the night we had about 100 votes in the ballot box which was more than enough to tally up the winners (keep reading to find out who they are.)

The Winners

In 3rd place we have MT-40, receivers of a mind blowing really smooth music vinyl collection!

In 2nd place, the runners-up were B-Lines, who will get a free night at the Howard Johnson Biltmore hotel!

And the 1st place winners of Smooth Sailing were…. The Greff Band, who win a boat rental at Sewells Marina out in Horseshoe Bay!!

Congratulations to all the bands! Friday night was epic, and I hope we can do it again.

Smooth Sailing: 12 Local Bands + Smooth Music

This is probably going to be the most anticipated event of your summer. 12 local Vancouver bands will be gracing the Biltmore stage performing 2-3 song cover sets of really smooth music (yacht rock). Think: Toto, Kenny Loggins, Hall & Oates, Chicago, Christopher Cross… the list goes on and on (and on and on and on). Here are the 12 bands that will have you swimming in smoothness on August 28th (in no particular order):
