Hard to believe an entire year has gone by since our last smooth sailing, yacht rocking event. I hope you all kept the fire, and are ready to sail away once again. Friday September 3rd, make sure you show up at the Biltmore Cabaret for our 2nd annual Smooth Sailing event! 12 bands, $12 bucks, great theatrics and delicious margaritas!

For any of you that missed it last year, Smooth Sailing is 12 local Vancouver bands of all genres doing their renditions of “really smooth music” and “yacht rock” (all the tacky brilliant 70’s & 80’s soft rock ballads you can think of – Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Toto, Hall & Oates, Foreigner, etc..) Chicago’s psych/Afro-beat jammers NOMO and Seattle’s new faves Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band will probably make you pee your pant with excitement. Yup, excitement will literally fill your pants on Jan 30th (assuming you’re at the Biltmore). It’s an early show, so make sure you reschedule dinner with your mom.

Imagine if James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced a Fela Kuti album. Nuff said right? Nope, you can’t say enough about these guys. In support of their fifth album, these five “Michicagonian” jazz school graduates, are travelling across the continent to bring you the most entertaining and…interesting, night you’ve had since the Canucks won the cup. So pack a change of pants and head on down to the Biltmore (EARLY) on Jan 30th to experience the brilliance that is NOMO.

If you were worried about 2010 bringing nothing but disappointment and shoddy entertainment, worry no more! Victoria’s Frog Eyes are going to blow your socks off and punch you in the face simultaneously on January 22nd at the Biltmore!

Opening up will be Vancouver’s beloved Apollo Ghosts and Tyranahorse.

So now that Twin Crystals and B-Lines are only 2 days away, and we’ve finalized the 3rd band on the bill (Stamina Mantis!) PLUS we have a sweet poster thanks to James Nakagawa… I might as well write another post so that you have another reason to get even more hyped than you already were before reading this.

Big news! Twin Crystals, B-lines and one more band (TBA) play the Biltmore on November 5th! Not many more details mustered up at the moment, more to follow, but for now mark your calendars and stay tuned. This is going to be a great show!

If you were lucky, you caught Listening Party the last time they played here at the Media Club (photos coming from that show in the next day or so, I promise!)
